[RP Thread for Neela Rasgotra]
Lucien waits until Romano is well on his way down the hall to flip the other man the digitus impunicus , then turns on his heel and heads for the elevator bank. Once in the ER, he finds that he was correct in his assumption: paged prematurely to consult on a case that upon actual review did not meet trauma service criteria. After briefly lecturing the attending in the trauma, Lucien snapped off his gloves and pushed his way out of the room to search the ER for a more welcoming face.

Ah, there she is, he smiles as he recognizes the petite resident studying the patient board. Walking up behind her and standing as close as he can without actually invading her personal space, Dubenko asks in a silky tone, “What are we doing, Dr. Rasgotra? Is the open lac in curtain two yours or do you perhaps have a moment?”

Neela studies the board carefully, triple checking that all of her patients have been signed off. She jumps slightly, startled, when she hears Lucien's voice behind her, Dr. Dubenko, I'd appreciate it if the next time you think about coming up behind me you'd rethink it.

He chuckles silently at her response, his chest shaking slightly. He places his hand at the small of her back for a brief moment, an act of contrition really. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you.

He clears his throat subtly and gestures towards the ambulance bay. Have time to grab a cup of coffee?

She steps away from his hand, too much contact at work for her likings. She nods, shoving her hands into her lab coat pockets, I'm off actually, so I ddo have time.

He clenches his fingers intoa fist reflexively when she pulls away, popping the knuckles and chastising himself for the public display of affection. He tries to sound casual though he's really rahter pleased that she will join him. Great. I have some free time myself so we can forgo Roach Coach and Jumbo Mart for something a bit more palletable.

He nods, trying not to be stung that she doesn't want people to see them leaving together. Yeah, sure. That works. See you in a few...

He turns and makes his way out intot he bay to wait for her, thinking over how to best broach the subject that's been on his mind lately.

He gestures to their right and follows the action with a nod of his head and a flip of his curly hair. This way, there's a coffee shop a couple of blocks from here that's not half bad...and I rarely see anyone from County in there. Is...is that okay?

As they round the corner away from County he offers her his arm. Well then, shall we? After a few steps he gives her a sidelong glance. How was your shift? On nights this week?

Neela looks at his arm and places a hand inside, tentatively, unsure of their relationship, It was mediocre, I'm completely exhausted in multiple fashions.

He nods as he places he free hand on hers for a moment, patting it. I promise I won't detain you long, let you get home and sleep. He quirks an eyebrow. I just wanted to get out of there for a while before I began to think of ways to take a hit out on Romano.

She rolls her eyes, Lucien, that man is positively vile, I'm not entirely positive I could even manage spending extended periods of time in the same room with him.

He smiles as she uses his given name then comments dryly, Thank you for not letting the man insult me, Lucien....Why you're more than welcome Neela. He chuckles and guides her towards the small cafe that's now in sight. Fortunately you'd be spending most of your time with me, or the chief resident...not the Chief of Staff. He pauses and rethinks that for a moment, realizing that Romano probably will oversee portions of her elective with him being out on medical leave. Maybe deferring isn't such a bad idea after all...

Well, who would you rather work under? He asks as he opens the door for her. Me or Romano? And I don't mean that in any sort of inappropriate context.

She ignores the latter part of his words, I'd rather be learning from you, however I don't understand why you're not trying to persuade me from taking the elective when it was you who pushed me towards it in the first place.

He points her to a table nearby and pulls out her chair for her. Oh, I absolutely want you to follow through. I think you'll excel, honestly. He takes his seat across from her and clears his throat quietly. I ah, I'm rather looking forward to the chance to mentor you through the elective...maybe pursuade you to stick with it.

She sits down in her seat, smiling in thanks at him, I think I could learn a lot from you, you're one of the best in the field, and I'm not just saying that.

He returns the smile, flattered that she thinks highly of him. Thank you, I'd say I agree with that but then you'd also think I was arrogant. He catches the eye of a waiter and turns back to her while waiting for the man to come by and take thier order. So ah, if you do want to do your elective with me, you may think about defering it for another 6 weeks or so.

He looks down at the table, then folds his hands together neatly, studying his figners before looking up at her again. I'm taking a six week medical leave of absence starting Friday.

He takes a deep breath and mutters 'here we go' to himself quietly before continuing. I asked you to have coffee with me, which I hope we can order soon, because I wanted to ask you to have dinner with me some time this week if you can. I ah, I think you know I enjoy your company in more than just a professional sense...

He shakes his head, trailing off. Look I know this is awkward and someone odd to ask you right now, considering we've never dated, shared one kiss...which I enjoyed...

He gives her a small nervous smile. But ah...I have prostate cancer, that's why the leave of absence...I'm having radical surgery to ah take care of it, but...He looks down at the table again and rattles off a list of side effects of the surgery up to and including erectile dysfuntion and the treatment thereof. I guess what I'm trying to ask you, Neela, is if you would still be interested in seeing if there was something worth pursuing...romantically, with me?

She has trouble trying not to looked shocked when he mentions his medical leave, her brow burrows into a deep crease as he continues on with his small speech. By the time he's finished she's at a loss of words, Lucien, I don't know what to say to any of that.

He nods meekly, not wanting to meet her gaze but forces himself to anyway. No, I understand that...He sighs as the waiter finally approaches and he orders his drink, waiting for Neela to do the same. So ah, your elective...He tries changing the subject, thinking that he may as well put any sort of relationship with her out of his mind. at least that's something to look forward to.
